Dear Wine Lover

More than half a year has passed!

If you remember, my resolution at the beginning of the year was to stick to my exercise regime and pace myself at work.  Although not a fan of gym routines, I have thankfully discovered how to inject fun into exercise, such as tree top walks, body vive, body combat and core muscles training.

During a recent visit to my TCM doctor, I happily shared with her that I am now more fit, but also have occasional nightmares of snakes.  She asked for the industry I work in and I replied ‘the wine business’.  She immediately told me this “gives off negative energy”, and said I should change my business.  Her parting question before I left the clinic was, “Did the snake bite you?”

The Wine Company was started to offer the experience of enjoying a good glass of wine with wholesome food and good company in a nice environment.  We do not advise customers to over-drink, and if you cannot finish your wine, our staff will pack your bottle in our brown paper bag, so you can bring it home to enjoy later.

For July, I am looking forward to wearing my pink dress for the Pink Brunch, where proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Foundation.

Really, why would the snake bite me?

“The First Pink Brunch!”
Up, Close & Personal with
Catherine Ng, Breast Cancer Foundation

This is the first time you are organising the Pink Brunch.  How many people are you expecting?
We are expecting about 180 pax, which would fill up the entire place.  It is organised by the BCF support group and the dress code is ‘Pink Glam’.  We hope this will be such a resounding success that this will be the first of many Pink Brunches in the future!

What can people look forward to during this event?
The Pink Brunch is a project presented by the Breast Cancer Foundation Support Groups.  The members of the English, Chinese and Malay Support Groups are committed volunteers who have survived breast cancer.  Beside these members, we also have the very special Men Support League who are the pillars and support for the survivors.

The aim of the Pink Brunch event is to raise public awareness of breast cancer, promote early detection, provide support activities for those affected by breast cancer and raise funds for the programmes and activities.

Our volunteer group has been practicing very hard for their skit, which would convey the message in an interesting way.  Of course, expect a lot of food, drinks and fun!

Why did you choose The Wine Company as the location?
One of our committee members, Irene, is a long-time fan of The Wine Company.  She introduced the place to us, and we loved the ambience.  We are also very lucky that The Wine Company believes in our cause and also generously sponsored the location as well as the food and drinks.  I must say we are very heartened and encouraged by the response so far.  Our Guest of Honour is Dr Vivian Balakrishnan and his wife, Mrs Balakrishnan, who have kindly agreed to grace the event.

What is your must-have at The Wine Company?
I am quite picky about my food, as I don’t eat meat.  At The Wine Company, my perennial favourite is the spinach pizza.  I have recommended it to a lot of my friends, and it has always been a hit!

Tickets of the Pink Brunch are priced at $50 per person.  For reservations, contact:

Lifestyle tip!

Did you know this little Gourmet-esque tip?
If you're drinking wine at dinner, and don't want to get a lipstick stain on your glass, here is a trick:

Simply lick the edge of the glass quickly right before you take a sip.  Voila!
