Meet the three partners behind The Wine Company™ – Victor, Belinda and Dan, who kick-started The Wine Company™ after years of friendship and copious glasses of wines. When Victor directly imported a few crates of wines for their personal consumption during one of their drinking sessions, the trio fell in love with the affordable prices and high quality these wines offered. Inspired to share the experience with more of their friends and to set right the misconception that wine is always expensive and reserved for snobs, The Wine Company™ was, thus, born.

 

Victor Szechenyi

The man who’s credited for building up an extensive wine list with more than 300 wines, including offerings predominantly from South Africa. Victor, a French national who travels between his two homes- South Africa and Singapore, has managed to convince some of the best producers, such as Vergelegen and Buitenverwachting, to sell their wines in Singapore. During his several annual visits to South Africa, Victor can be found catching up with some of the country’s leading producers as well as up and coming talents on the latest reports on current vintages. This lover of nature is also an exercise enthusiast, and will not hesitate to tell you that a glass or two of wine is good for your health. When he is in Singapore, regulars love to catch hold of him and ask him for recommendations- then promptly buy the bottles.

 

Favourite: The Amarone from Mussela in the Veneto region of Italy, a wine with soft power with sweet fruit on entry and a dry velvety finish.

 

Belinda Lim

The lady who runs the business with an iron fist. A firm believer that  The Wine Company™ should set the bar for value-for-money wines, Belinda has introduced ground-breaking (and wallet-friendly) rules such as ‘no service charge and GST’, and a more-than-affordable $6 drink-in charge. This means diners just pay $6 on top of retail prices for those who want to hang out at The Wine Company™, which promises great value.
A perfectionist, she combines her artistic passion with professional rigour by constantly adding touches such as creating floral arrangements for the restaurants, designing the restaurant menu during the wee hours of the night, or setting the art direction for all in-house photography. She can often be seen interacting with regular guests at the outlets, or dining in with her husband Dan, and her beloved 16-year old daughter, Denise.

 

Favourite: Burgundy from a good vintage.

 

Dan Yeong

Retail and Operations/General Manager

The behind-the-scenes man who ensures all operations run smoothly. This may sound like a simple job, but in fact includes human resource issues, stock control and maintenance….and also chasing mosquitoes and annihilating colonies of ants. He’s also the IT expert, and takes charge of all point-of-sales training. Dan also wears the hat as the resident photographer, and his works can be seen in The Wine Company™ menu and the monthly e-newsletter. A family-centred man, Dan loves nothing more than kicking back and relaxing with his daughter and wife. With a glass of wine, of course.
